I need not say that Mrs Dickens is not going [Charles Dickens Jr had been born on the 6th January] but I must, even at the loss of the ancient Roman game of the flying ball which I have no doubt I should have found far more amusing than the modern entertainment of a dancing one. I may venture to return thanks on behalf of Miss Hogarth for your kindness, although she has left us. Pray remember me to all in Arundel Street [Chapman's three sisters] and believe me / My Dear Sir/ faithfully yours Charles Dickens /  Thomas Chapman esq)  "  Endorsed date 27 Janry 1837" in contemp hand. Letter is backed with  rice (?)supporting paper to  both pages (first page obviously separated at some time in the past, so verticle line). This letter could be easily removed if required from book as lightly tipped in. Early Dickens' letter contemporary with composition of Pickwick papers
