Gift inscription from Waugh "for Alfred [Duggan] / not such an accurate historical/ reconstruction as yours/from/Evelyn" Binding little marked slightly effecting spine letter to "Helena" Foxing to end papers slight effecting top last few pages text. Wrapper with some tears and extremity loss , creasing back wrapper, some internal wrapper foxing (fair/good). The book is signed to Alfred Duggan historical novelist and archaeologist who associated with Waugh and Anthony Powell at Balliol Oxford. When Alfred died in 1964 Waugh wrote his obituary in the Spectator. The character of Charles Stringham in Powell's Dance to the music of Time is meant to be based on Alfred's brother Hubert.
